Husky / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) Dog

Meet CHESTER! *courtesy post - contact John Gilmour via email at [email protected] for adoption info!

Chesters behavior is very much the prototypical Husky. He is extremely social and high energy. He absolutely loves people and dogs, and gets very excited with new people.  He is a big licker and loves kisses.  He loves to run around you and play chase/keep away.  He has never once displayed any of the slighest sign of aggression or even fear. He is very intelligent and very confident in himself. So he loves dogs bigger than him, and when angry dogs have charged him at dog parks he just looks at them funny and stands there. Our 2 year old toddler has been around chester since he was born and there has never been a problem. Chester is very obedient to the presence/dominance of a human to a dog relationship, even if the human is a child.  He will let our toddler have the right of way or eat food next to him while he sits patiently waiting.  As with all dogs, an adult must be present when small child are around as big dogs can accidentally knock over a kid while running around.  Chester is a very outdoor type dog and the husky in him gives him that spirit.  I don't know how he would respond as we have never had cats, but he does chase at possums, squirrels, and mice that crawl along our fence at night.  He is very intelligent and easy to train, but we have never tried that yet. He is completely house trained and will not go the bathroom inside.  In fact we trained him easily to poop only in one 5 sq ft area of dirt in our whole yard.  He has never damaged any furniture,  clothing, or inside human toy.  Chester has no aggression and no food territorial behavior.  Hes a husky and as such the opposite of a guard dog.  He is a husky so he is extremely smart and athletic.  So a yard must be fully secure to prevent him from digging out or jumping over a low fence.  He is getting older and not like he was as a puppy, but its still prudent to have a secure fence.  He never barks on walks or hikes or at day care. The only time he barks is in the yard when another big dog is walking by the front of the house. Once the dog is gone hes over it. He just really wants to go out and play with the dog.
